G9 Accessories
Accessories will enhance your photography experience by leaps and bounds. I hope this page helps you decide which accessory will suit your needs during your photography journey. With each review, I will assign each accessory with a Bang for the Buck rating (1 star - least value 5- most value). Comments are always welcome. I am looking to sharing my knowledge and learning about our G9 together.
One of the first things you should consider investing in for your G9 is the Adorama 58mm Conversion Lens Adapter
Adorama 58mm Conversion Lens Adapter $17
With this adapter, your options increase exponentially as far as lenses and filters go. The Adorama 58mm Conversion Lens Adapter not only expands the potential of your G9, it also gives the G9 a professional look while doubling as a make shift hood. Hoods are used to prevent sunflares and other anomalies that occur from the sun. The Bang for the Buck rating on this guy is a perfect 5. The Canon produced 58mm Conversion Lens Adapter is made of plastic and has not gotten rave reviews; in addition to the cheap feel, it costs more. With the Adorama 58mm Conversion Lens Adapter (made of aluminum not plastic), you can consider many more options to give your photos that added touch.
A polarizer filter can have a dramatic effect on the final outcome of your photos. A polarizer filter can greatly reduce glare thus, leaving you with a more crisp photo for extreme light conditions. A polarizer filter can add depth to your photos especially when capturing the sky on a sunny day. There are 2 types of polarizers, circular and linear. The linear polarizer does not suit our needs for the G9 since the G9 is an Auto-Focus Digital Camera. Linear polarizers are aimed at not equipped to handle the Auto-Focus feature of a camera like the G9 so, I went with the circular polarizer. This narrows down our options and can help us focus on the particular circular polarizers. After hours of reading reviews on multiple polarizer filters, I decided on the Hoya 58mm Circular Polarizer. Cost $38. The saturation that it lends to your photos will breathe new life into your G9. It’s amazing what a polarizer filter can do for blue skies. The Hoya 58mm Circular Polarizer fits perfectly with the Adorama 58mm Conversion Lens Adapter.

Being made of glass, it goes without saying that the Hoya 58mm Circular Polarizer Filter would benefit greatly from a lens cap. Any 58mm lens cap will do. The lens cap fits right over the polarizer filter so that you can keep everything assembled during times you do not want to use the polarizer. An end cap for the end of the Adorama 58mm Conversion Lens Adapter is just as important as the lens (front) cap itself. This will protect the polarizer from dust and debris that could show up as specs on your photos. On a recent trip to the Bronx Zoo, I stumbled upon a Canon 58mm lens cap - it was just laying there on the floor. The universe works in mysterious ways. As for the end cap, a friend of mine had one that I was allowed to use. This setup allows me to carry my polarizer filter as one lens.

Keeping all of these accessories assembled can save you valuable time when on a photo project. No fuss, just great shots. I highly recommend this system. Of course, for the frugal, you can forego the Front and End caps and simply store your Circular Polarizer in the case that it came in. Adorama offers a 58mm Front Lens Cap for $5.
